When I started with Mambo 4.5.0, I didn't like the way every page's title was simply the site name: negative for success in search engines - other than for success with searches including the site name. I dug around on forums, came across page title hack, which involved a php file, and need to change some code in template. After some trial and error, found this worked very well. Now, Mambo 4.5.2 has built-in option for dynamic page titles - good progress, but there's still room for improvement.
These page titles are of the form: "site name - item title". So, site name is on every page; not ideal I think, but can go with it. "Item title" works well for regular items - giving chance to write titles that have keywords, and may entice people to click on them when titles appear in search results listings. (Just as I'd done with the title hack in 4.5.0.) But Mambo doesn't always find info to use in page titles; in such cases, the title is just the site name. Which is a long way from ideal - for photos in my (menalto) gallery, say, I'd love the title for album to be the name of the album, and for a photo the name of the photo. This is possible; I've tried a file that should help achieve this, but no success yet. For Simpleboard, however, I now do have a file that helps generate good page titles - such as title for a thread. You can obtain it from Downloads - octopod.org. - seems this or v similar file is now included with Simpleboard 1.1RC1, which is great.
Also, it seems that the default is to have the word "Home" appear on the homepage, which might not be what you want. I've avoided this by unpublishing the main menu (where the top published item tells Mambo what to use as default, or homepage), then having another menu with basic link - just the domain name - to the homepage. The text used for this link shows in the page title. SEO Patch for Joomla!Just read of - and installed - a SEO patch for Joomla!, which enhances search engine optimisation through several changes, including to page titles.
